As summer has unfolded and the rhythm of our days lengthens you are going to start hearing from me more regularly with updates on our program, what to bring, etc. We now have 47 people registered for the Faith Creative! Even more exciting is that the ages of our little group range from 8 to 80! There’s still room for more. As of this morning we still have two available lodge rooms and five available duplex rooms; that’s room for up to 28 more to join us. There’s a registration link at the bottom of this newsletter. Now on to the main focus, getting to know this summer’s Bible study leader: Rev. Dr. Audrey West.
I first met Audrey at Outlaw Ranch in the summer of 2014 when she was the guest presenter and Tangled Blue were the guest musicians for a week of family camp. Audrey, Aimée, and I hit it off right away. She is one of the most approachable bible scholars Aimee and I have met, and I know the generosity of her spirit is going to be a great blessing to our conversations at the Faith Creative.
Audrey just finished a year as the acting dean of students at Yale Divinity School. She also served from 2000-2008 as Associate Professor of New Testament at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, where she continues to teach occasionally in the ACTS DMin in Preaching program. She holds a BS from the University of California, Davis, an MDiv and STM from Yale University, and a PhD from Duke University, Her exegetical and homiletical essays have been published in Christian Century, Currents in Theology and Mission, Lutheran Woman Today, and in Feasting on the Word, a lectionary preaching resource published by Westminster John Knox. Audrey is the recipient of the Associated Church Press “Award of Excellence” for her 2004 study on the parables, “Everyday Surprises: The Parables of Jesus,” published by Lutheran Woman Today.
Here is a short list of links to some of Dr. West’s work online.
Online registration is open here! It’s a simple three step process where you 1) share your contact information, 2) receive an email confirmation, 3) send in a down-payment. Have questions? Send ‘em to email@example.com.
Thanks for reading. I hope to see you soon!
PS – I could also use your help in getting the word out about the Faith Creative. I’ve posted a new poster, bulletin insert, and mail-in registration form here. Please share these if your congregation, friends, and/or family who might be interested in joining us this August.
